U.S. Navy Commissary to close due to government shutdown
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The latest victim of the government shutdown in Jacksonville is the U.S. Navy Commissary on Mayport Road in Atlantic Beach.
Tori Hartman found out her frequent trips to the discount grocery store will come to a halt Wednesday. The commissary is closing its doors indefinitely due to the government shutdown.
Hartman said it's a shame.
"I'm very upset about it,"she said.
Hartman and thousands of other local military families rely on the commissary for relief on their wallets.
Staff inside the store told Action News reporter Ryan Smith they were alerted to the sudden closure Tuesday. Signs stating that customers will be locked out on Wednesday have been posted on the doors. So Hartman and her family stocked up.
"It's difficult now and I'm still in shock about this," she said.
