UF Health Shands Gainesville plans major expansion
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- UF officials are planning a major overhaul of UF Health Shands that will add over 200 beds to one of the area's only trauma centers.
Construction on the $400 million project is estimated to be complete in 2018, according to a press release.
The new specialty tower is expected to house UF Health Shand's neuromedicine and cardiovascular hospitals.
"The new specialty hospital tower will allow us to better address the needs of patients with cardiovascular and neurological issues, much like we are providing care to cancer patients with great success at the UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital," said Timothy M. Goldfarb, CEO of UF Health Shands.
The new tower will be located east of Archer Road near the visitor parking lot for UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital.
The hospital expansion is projected to create hundreds of new jobs in Alachua County.
