HORTENSE, Ga. -- Detectives in Georgia are talking with the parents of a local college student found dead near campus.
There are so many questions and now family and close friends just want answers after learning the body of 22-year-old Rebecca Greene was found in a creek in Athens, Ga.
Family friend John Clay said Greene's boyfriend last heard from her Monday night when she said she was walking home.
"The whole family was totally frantic because Rebecca had never made it home," said Clay.
He lives a few houses down from Greene's family in Hortense and said Greene has been riding his horses and tending to the stables since she was 10.
"She won all kinds of ribbons and metals and Rebecca was so happy," said Clay.
Driven is how he described Greene, who in just a few more months would have had a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Georgia.
Clay said she was looking forward to coming home after graduation to see her family and the horses she couldn't get enough of.
"I still can't believe she's not going to show up out there, get on that horse and go for a ride up the street," he said.
Clay said Greene's backpack was found under a car near her home in Athens. Police said her bicycle and cellphone were found near the scene of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
