JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The heat is on at the University of North Florida to snuff out smoking. If a new proposal passes, UNF would be the latest place in Jacksonville to go smoke free.
University leaders want it to happen sooner, rather than later. But for the first time Monday, students got to weigh in with their thoughts about it.
Administrators at UNF drafted a proposal to ban all forms of tobacco by next August. Monday night's forum was the first time students got to share their impressions on the matter. In a recent smoking survey by the UNF Health and Promotions Department, it showed nearly three quarters of students and staff were non smokers. An equal number would support a smoke free campus.
Following the student forums, administrators at the university will review all the information and the smoking ban proposal could be altered. It will then go to the board of trustees for a vote on June 11th.
