JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida is going smoke-free. The school passed a new regulation that prohibits smoking on University controlled properties. The regulation goes into effect Aug. 25, 2014.

On that date, all designated smoking areas will be eliminated, ash receptacles will be removed, and a campaign will be implemented including a marketing and education plan.

The regulation applies to all members of the UNF community. The regulation will prohibit the sale and distribution of smoking products. Smoking-related advertising and sponsorship will also be prohibited.

The University says it will provide accessible smoke addiction treatment to assistance to students, faculty and staff and will publicize its availability.
