USS Halyburton aids in search and rescue mission after plane crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The USS Halyburton is being credited for its help in a search and rescue mission after a deadly helicopter crash in Panama.
The chopper crashed early Thursday morning.
One person died in the crash and eight others were rescued.
Navy officials say at the the time of the crash, the USS Halyburton was working with the chopper crew on operations in the Caribbean.
The USS Halyburton left Jacksonville in January for its last deployment.
The ship has been in commission for 30 years.
On this current mission the USS Halyburton is working on targeting drug trafficking routes.
It's expected to return to Jacksonville sometime in June.
