PALM COAST, Fla. -- The Flagler County Sheriff's Office arrested a Palm Coast repairman who on a charge of stealing from a person 65 years of age or older after his customer reported the theft of jewelry from her home.
Daniel Hunter, 43, of Rocking Horse Drive, was arrested at his home on warrants additionally charging him with a felony of dealing in stolen property and a misdemeanor for false representation as a licensed or certified contractor.
The investigation finds that between October 1 and November 30, 2012, Hunter worked as a painting contractor at the 83-year-old victim's Woodlyn Lane home. The victim hired Hunter to paint her driveway after he was referred by another contractor. That contractor told deputies that Hunter had presented himself as a licensed contractor.
When the job was completed, the victim said Hunter claimed to be a painting contractor, so she hired him to paint the inside of her house. After the job was completed, the victim noticed several pieces of jewelry were missing.
She contacted Hunter whom she said admitted to taking the jewelry. He returned four pieces but other pieces remained missing. Investigators said Hunter sold the jewelry to a local pawn shop on December 19.
Hunter has been released from jail.
