Valiant effort: Coast Guard crew returns after drug-trafficking operations
MAYPORT, Fla. -- A local Coast Guard crew has returned to home after completing a counter-narcotics operation in the Caribbean.
CGC Valiant supported Joint Interagency Task Force South during a four-week deployment. The crew helped monitor and track narcotic-trafficking suspects coming from Central and South America.
Law enforcement agents used the Valiant to board four boats and seized 160 kilograms of cocaine. Those drugs had an estimated value of $5.3 million, according to the Coast Guard.
The crew also helped a passenger ferry in trouble off the coast of Jamaica. CGC Valiant towed the disabled ferry to Montego Bay where the Jamaican Defense Force took over.
