BAKER COUNTY, Fla. -- Stephanie Thornton wants to know why she was never told Donald Smith was released from jail.

Thornton says Smith, accused of kidnapping and murdering 8 year-old Cherish Perrywinkle, is the same man who terrorized her family four years ago.

"I wish he was dead," said Thornton.

In 2009 Smith was accused of posing as a Department of Children and Families employee in order to get close to Thornton's daughter, Christina, who was nine at the time.

Thornton says Smith claimed Christina had been raped and he needed to take her to get tested, he even arranged a meeting. Thornton became suspicious and alerted police.

She wants to know why he was ever released and why she did not know he was free until hearing through a friend he was all over the news.

"He's sick they need to electrocute him. Three weeks after you get out of jail you've done it again and killed a child," said Thornton.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, whether or not alleged victims were notified may come up in the course of the investigation into Perrywinkle's murder.

Thornton says she's now praying for the Perrywinkle family.

"It's hard knowing it could've happened to my daughter and that these parents have to go through this with their 8 year-old daughter," said Thornton.

Smith was charged with attempted impersonation of a public employee and attempted child abuse by mental harm in 2009. He served a year for each count and was released on May 31st of this year.

I really am puzzled by this case. A mother....down on her luck, befriends a total stranger at a Dollar Store. He offers to buy her things for her children at Walmart **RED FLAG** right there....I would have said "no thank you" at that point. They all go over to Walmart where he then offers to buy food at McDonalds for the daughter. **RED FLAG**. SHE THEN LETS THE MAN TAKE HER DAUGHTER OUT OF HER SIGHT????? **RED FLAG** Who does that??? I never let my child out of might sight, especially at Walmart, there are scary people that shop at that store. This man....or monster has been repeatedly busted for touching kids....raping, threatening and also impersonating authority figures dating back over 35 years......how many times does a pedophile have to be locked up before someone gets the bright idea that a violent sex offender should not be allowed out on the street??? How many children have to be a victim of this P0S before he's finally locked up and put to death? WAKE UP FLORIDA!
