ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A worker was seriously burned at a construction project in Orange County Thursday morning.
The worker was on a lift removing air conditioning units from a building on President's Drive near Sand Lake Road when it is believed a piece of equipment made contact with a high-voltage line, shocking him and setting him on fire.
A man, who said he used to be a volunteer firefighter, was driving past the scene. He noticed the worker.
He said the lift was 25-30 feet in the air. He was able to climb the lift, extinguish the fire and and then lower the lift.
Officials said the worker appears to be burned over 70 percent of his body.
He was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Firefighters said the man was able to talk to them while being transported by ambulance.
