ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Eyewitness News obtained surveillance footage Tuesday that shows two deputies opening fire on a man who they said was acting erratically and running around with a gun.
Investigators said Deputies Ronald Allen and Brian Tracy shot and killed a man who they said was armed outside an Orange County hotel Monday night.
The shooting happened at a Tranquility Extended Stay hotel near South Orange Blossom Trail and Holden Avenue on Monday evening, according to the sheriff's office.
WFTV learned a good portion of the shooting was caught on surveillance cameras. Authorities said they are reviewing video to figure out exactly what happened.
Employees said they called authorities when the man suddenly ran onto hotel property armed with what appeared to be a pellet gun.
"We called 911 as soon as it happened," witness Rudy Santiago said.
Santiago said the man was not making much sense and sounded like he was drunk.
Deputies said when they arrived, they spotted the man between the hotel and the restaurant next door.
Authorities won't say what the man was doing, but said he would not comply with their demands.
In the video, Allen and Tracy can be seen arriving, crossing paths with the man and then going after him.
Seconds later, the deadly confrontation played out.
In the video, the man is blocked by a tree during the actual shooting. Allen and Tracy first draw their guns, take a step back and then open fire.
"He started to walk northbound, disregarding the deputies … at that point that is when the firing ensued," said Capt. Angelo Nieves with Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives have the pellet gun but the sheriff's office couldn't say if the man actually pointed it at or opened fire on the deputies.
They said two deputies did shoot at him and witnesses said they heard four gunshots.
Authorities have not released the name of the man, and they say the two deputies have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard procedure.
