JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Cherish Perriwinkle and Jordan Davis were among the names added to Unity Plaza this year, pushing the number of names there to 442.
"It's a horrible feeling to have to do this event each year, and add names to already too many engraved pavers," said Ryan Backmann, lead victim advocate for Compassionate Families, Inc.
The latest 20 names were added as part of the annual vigil, now in its 18th year.
"I hope that an event like this would make the community look around at each other, and realize that this is unacceptable," Backmann said.
Compassionate Families joined the Jeff Mitchell Foundation for the event. Mitchell's parents established the foundation after their son was killed outside Terry Parker High School in 1993.
