JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Five new faces will soon be stepping into top administrative roles within the Duval County Public School district.
"It's part of my 100-day plan to fill cabinet level positions as quickly as possible," said Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti.
Dr. Vitti has only been on the job since November but he isn't wasting any time filling his top five leadership positions -- including Chief Academic Officer,Chief Financial Officer, Executive Director for Accountability and Assessment, Chief of Staff and Chief of Strategic Partnerships.
"We are making a change in the Chief Academic Officer position. That's the only change as far as current positions now."
That's the only position that currently has someone in place. The others are open or being created.
Vitti says the former Chief Academic Officer is moving into a director position at the district level.
All of his new hires are coming from out of county. But they're people Vitti has worked with in the past.
"I've said from the beginning in applying that I believe in an inside outsider approach to the work," he said. "I think we have some great people in our district at higher level administrative positions that are doing good work but I wanted to fill some of these with quote on quote outsiders but people that have solid experience in public education."
And he says putting people in place is a move that won't cost the district a dime -- even though some of these positions are new.
"It's cost neutral. I'm closing a couple of positions that are open that are funded so it's no additional burden on the budget."
Action News has learned the people filling those roles come from all over Florida including Tampa, Miami, Orlando and the Florida Department of Education. He says they are all former teachers.
