JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A pharmacy technician was arrested Monday after surveillance cameras caught her stealing prescription pills from the Walmart she was working at.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called to the Walmart at 13490 Beach Boulevard Monday after a manager reported an employee had been stealing from the pharmacy.
According to the manager, surveillance video showed Rebecca Thomas take a handful of pills, put them in her pocket and walk into the restroom. When the manager discovered Thomas was stealing, he asked the pharmacy doctor to start inventorying the pills.
The doctor found that Thomas, 40, stole approximately five hundred and eighteen pills over time, which amounts to over $2,000. She told authorities she stole pills for her terminally ill mother.
Thomas had been working as a pharmacy technician since 1986. She was arrested and charged with Employee Theft.
