GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a murder in Gainesville.

Investigators say Larry Whitehead, Jr., is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

He is wanted for the murder of Samuel Hamilton.

On Sunday morning, the Gainesville Police Department said it received multiple 911 calls about a shooting in the area of the Southern Pines Apartments.

According to witnesses, Whitehead forced his way into the apartment where he and Hamilton got into an argument.

Police say Whitehead pulled out a gun and shot Hamilton in the head.

Hamilton was found dead in the apartment by police. Whitehead ran off and K-9 officers were unable to find him.

Whitehead has an excessive criminal history, according to police.

Action News checked with police today who said the U.S. Marshal Service is now involved in the search for Whitehead.

If you see him, call 911 immediately and report any information you have, or you can make an anonymous tip by texting the keyword "GPDFL" plus your tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
