JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Local agencies are putting out warnings ahead of the record low temperatures.

Charles Williams knows the mercury is only going to drop overnight. "I gotta go to work in the morning and I'm not looking forward to it."

With temperatures in the teens and feeling even colder, several local agencies are putting out warnings. The Florida Department of Transportation said workers won't be out in the cold doing projects unless there's an emergency. They're also warning drivers about black ice on local roads. We even saw signs posted along A1A warning people not to let their sprinklers spray on the road.

"We're not used to that in Florida," said Trooper Karen Cabrera, with FHP.

Trooper Cabrera is ready for more drivers to be in trouble on the roads.

"We're a little more vigilant, watching for people stranded at night because of the cold temperatures," said Trooper Cabrera.

She took Action News along for a ride Monday as they watched the roadways. While it was quiet, she's expecting the morning to be slow going. That's why she has some advice.

"Double-check your car before you leave home and work," said Cabrera.

For one driver, there is one thing that could make the already cold weather in Florida even worse.

"This is good compared to up north. I feel for those folks. They have snow and they're digging out," said Williams.

Several tow truck companies told Action News they had extra crews on standby for any problems that may arise.
