ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. -- Wet roadways are to blame for a crash that left one dead and another injured in Alachua County.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 78-year-old Sylvia Hodgins and 78-year-old Edward Hodgins were driving south on State Road 93 during a heavy storm around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when their car lost traction, hydroplaned and flipped. The Hodgins Lincoln then crashed into a tree and landed upside down.
Both the driver and passenger were taken to UF & Shands Gainesville for medical treatment. Edward Hodgins later died from his injuries. Sylvia Hodgins is expected to survive.
