JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two big companies with stores in our area are looking for holiday help. Target has announced it will be hiring up to 90,000 seasonal workers nationwide. And Kohl's is looking to hire 52,000.
Candace Moody with WorkSource says hiring usually starts to pick up this time of year. And while many of these positions are temporary, they can turn into full-time positions. There's only one holiday industry where she hasn't seen any growth. "We haven't seen as much of the shipping jobs as we have in previous years. Usually the post office and companies like UPS hire temporary workers. That hasn't been the trend, at least so far in our records."
But the retail news is good news, says Moody. And hopefully it will help Jacksonville's rising unemployment rate.
Action News asked her, "Is the unemployment issue looking better from your standpoint?" Moody replied, "Well, people are getting jobs everyday. But the unemployment rate has been stubbornly persistent." She went on to say, "Holiday hiring is good news. And whenever there's good news, job seekers get more optimistic and that's always good."
If you're interested, you need to act fast. Target and Kohl's have already started hiring.
