CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- The woman shot by her husband Wednesday afternoon at Life Care Center nursing home has died from her injuries.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Patricia Stanton died at Orange Park Medical Center Friday morning due to the injuries she endured after her husband shot her.

The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at the Life Care Center at 2145 Kingsley Avenue in Orange Park. According to police, James Stanton shot his 68-year-old wife and then shot and killed himself.

No other people were involved and there was no evacuation at the center.

Neighbors and friends of the couple say by all accounts they were loving and happy. They went to breakfast on Sundays at a local restaurant. "I'm gonna miss Mr. Jim. I can't understand it," said neighbor Brandon. "He took care of her," said another friend.

Friends say Patricia Stanton was in the facility after a fall on her porch a few weeks ago. The couple does have children and grandchildren.

Action News talked with the facility. A spokesman says they have a security guard on the property and an emergency plan in place.
