JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Fire crews battled a wildfire in North Jacksonville that threatened homes, according to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue.

Heavy brush burned in the 8 acre fire off Sawpit Road in Black Hammock Island.

"We've just been running from neighbors house to neighbors house trying to help them keep water on their barns and water on their houses so nobody loses any structures," said Conrad Dove.

According to Annaleasa Winter with the Florida Forest Service, two bulldozers have almost contained the fire. Firefighters worked through a swampy area. Winds blew embers but there are no reports of damage or injuries.
