JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Winter weather forced the cancellation of flights at Jacksonville International Airport and disrupted Amtrak service in Florida.

Destinations most affected by the storm included busy airline hubs like Atlanta and Charlotte. The Lippincott family tried to fly out of Jacksonville bound for Italy. Two of the family's connecting flights were canceled.

“We're six people traveling, so that affects the plans,” said Elizabeth Lippincott, who is traveling with her children, mother and husband. “Originally, when we were rebooking, they could find two seats or four seats and that adds another level of complication.”

For others, getting back to Florida was the issue. Peggy Thompson had to fly into Jacksonville, after her flight from Charlotte to Gainesville was canceled.

“Life throws you curves and you can either be sour about it and gripe and complain or say 'Lord there was a reason for you to do this,'” Thompson said.

Amtrak canceled trains in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas because of the winter weather. Travel issues are expected to continue into Thursday as the winter storm system moves north.
