JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A woman says she was was inside the Walmart store when 8-year-old Cherish Perrywinkle was abducted is speaking out. Crystal Brookshire tells Action News she wishes there was something she could have done Friday night.
The last several days have been tough for her, especially as a mother of three. Crystal says she saw Cherish's mom and two daughters in the shoe section minutes before it happened.
"She looked like she was having a hard time she looked like her mind was somewhere else," she said.
Crystal says she left the checkout line a little after 10:30 p.m., and that she felt something wasn't right, but never saw nor heard Cherish.
"There was no scene, there was no help me, no I'm in trouble, no I'm in danger, something is not right, nothing. "That's what's hard to make sense of all of this," said Crystal.
Since that night, Crystal tells Action News she's scared for her children now, more than ever before.
"Our justice system needs to change it is failing us adults it is failing our children. Our children are not safe," she explained.
The mother says all she can do now is pray, and let Cherish know she will always be in her thoughts.
Crystal's car was also the second car JSO were looking for because she was there at the same time, but it turned out to be a misunderstanding. Her car has been cleared from their investigation.
