JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One man is in the hospital after a horrific fight outside Maverick's Country Bar that led to a hit and run in the parking lot across from The Jacksonville Landing.

Witnesses describe what they saw.

"Bars closed about 2-o'clock," said John Buskager.  "Everybody was out front. About 3, 4 fights kinda tried to start."

"In the process, a girl had got knocked down and another girl had got punched," said Timothy Hobgod.

That's when Hobgod says he and his friends saw a man who appeared to hit one of those girls run to his truck.

They saw the man get into his truck.

"He backs up and he hits this van over here," said Hobgod.  "And then he goes forward."

"Truck tried taking off, guy jumped on the hood," said Buskager.  "They slammed on their brakes, guy rolled off."

"I don't know if he hopped up on the hood or got swept up by the truck going fast, but when he got 5 or 10 feet he stopped and the boy fell off and he went again and just ran him over," says Hobgod.

Witnesses say the next thing they saw was the man who jumped in front of that truck laying on the ground in a pool of blood.

"Bunch of people were around him," said Buskager.  "Everybody's screaming. Yelling."

"I thought he was dead I was hysterical," added Hobgod.  "Freaking out like everyone else."

The victim is still listed in critical condition. As for the suspect, JSO have not released any further information at this time.

just a boys nite out... typical of today's youth, take no responsibility for your actions, until J.S.O. shows up at your door & asks you to step outside, when they place the cuffs on you, & bring you before the judge !!! the driver will be brought to justice, someone had to see his tag #... the question is is it hit & run, attempted vehicular manslaughter, or if the victim dies, vehicular manslaughter with depraved indifference to human life ??? let's hope the victim survives & gets well, and that they throw several books at the driver !!!
