COCOA BEACH, Fla. (WFTV) -- A Cocoa woman told Channel 9 she was attacked over the weekend because she didn't pick up after her dog.
Katie Arora suffered bruised ribs, a bruised sternum, a black eye and needed stitches on her nose after she said her neighbor jumped her on Sunday.
While Arora admitted she left the dog poop behind, she said she didn't deserve the punishment she received.
Police said the knock-down-drag-out fight over dog feces landed the victim in the hospital and the suspect, Jameira Smith, behind bars.
"She got some, too, don't worry," Arora said.
Cocoa police said Smith had just about enough of Arora's dog doing his business on her lawn.
"She called her the b-word and told her to get it up. Who wants to get someone else's poop?" said Smith's neighbor, Brenda Lennear.
Arora told authorities she was simply walking her dog Sunday about midnight when Smith and her boyfriend jumped her.
Arora denies her dog left anything behind in Smith's yard on Flower Mound Lane. She said the argument was really over something her dog did in the past.
"So did the dog poop on her lawn?" asked Channel 9's Anthony DiLorenzo.
"No, it wasn't her lawn. It was a bush (in the median) and I told her I couldn't get it because I wouldn't dig into a bush," Arora said.
The 28-year-old Smith was arrested on aggravated battery charges and went before a judge in jail Tuesday.
Lennear quickly came to her defense.
"I don't think she needs to be in jail because the lady disrespected her yard. Nobody want to step in poop and take it in their house," Lennear said. "She deserved it. She deserved the beatdown."
Police are still looking for Smith's boyfriend, who is also considered a suspect.
