JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A woman was convicted in a 2012 murder after she beat, shot, and strangled a man during a domestic dispute.
Maria Eileen Bratton, 56, was convicted Thursday afternoon in the murder of Cecil Scroggie. Bratton was convicted on a count of second-degree murder.
Police say Bratton ran to a neighbor's house in June 2012 to get help after she shot and killed Scroggie, 57.
The couple was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the shooting. When police arrived, Bratton told officers that she shot the victim in self-defense.
The evidence showed Bratton had beaten, shot, and strangled Scroggie.
Bratton faces life in prison and is listed as a 10/20/Life Offender. She will be sentenced the week of Sept. 23.
