JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A woman will spend 25 years in prison for a 2010 attempted murder.
Jessie Claire Roberts, 25, was sentenced to 35 years in prison on one count of attempted murder in the second degree. She also got 15 years in prison for sale or possession with intent to sell cannabis while armed and five years for failure of defendant to appear on bail. Roberts was convicted of the charges in December 2013. The sentences will run concurrently.
In May 2010, a woman and her friend drove to the Publix on Merrill Road to pick up another friend. When they arrived, Roberts approached them and began to argue with them about selling marijuana. Roberts pulled out a handgun. As the women continued to argue, Roberts raised her gun and shot the victim, striking her once in the neck. The victim has recovered from her injuries.
