JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There's a hunt underway for two men who police say tried breaking into an Eastside home while the woman who lives there was sleeping.
"That is very scary," said neighbor Bennie Hayes.
Neighbors are rattled after the woman got a rude awakening. Around 1:45 a.m. she heard a noise at the window of her one-story home. Police say she ran into the hallway and then two men fired shots at her. She was hit in the leg.
Police are calling this a home-invasion robbery, but they don't know much about the suspects. We have learned police responded to the same home Saturday after the same victim said two men tried breaking down her back door demanding money. The police report said those two men took off when officers arrived. At this point, police are unsure if the same men are involved in both cases.
Hayes worries the gunmen will be back.
"I probably will be staying up and staying vigilant. Keeping a little watch," he said.
As for the woman, she is recovering at UF Health. Action News is told she is stable.
Action News did speak with a woman who said she owns the home. She did not want to comment on what happened, but she did drive out to the house to check it out.
Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call police.
