JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Local veterans are getting help share their stories of service.

Former sports illustrated editor Dan Nevins was in town to teach Wounded Warriors how to speak in public and tell their stories.

Organizers say the workshop not only helped warriors share their personal stories but also helped them heal from their wounds.

I'm a wounded warrior, and I was sharing my story and I realized there was a lot of healing going on by sharing my story,” said Nevins. “You're able to get through that over and over there's healing that takes place.”

Right now the Wounded Warrior Project has 13 speakers, who rotate through different cities to share their experience.

The project says military members choose to work with the organization after their tenure ends.
