CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- The Wright's Lake Dam off County Road 315 in Clay County failed at 10 p.m. Friday and a flash flood warning was issued for the area. The warning has now expired.

Officials feared there would be flash flooding near the banks of Peter's Creek after the dam broke, but so far they don't think homes are in danger. People around Peter's Creek are still asked to report flooding to the nearest law enforcement agency or the Clay County Emergency Operations Center.

Action News cameras were there as Chief Lorin Mock inspected the failure late Friday night on Action News @ 11 on CBS47. Mock says they are monitoring the water levels on Peter's Creek, but at the moment officials believe the water is breaking through the dam slowly and should not pose a major threat to people in the area. The creek remains closed to boaters.

Earlier in the day, a private property owner reported to emergency officials that their dam was about to break. They attempted repairs, but the dam failed shortly after 10 p.m. Friday. No evacuations have been issued for the area.
