JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast is building a new facility in Riverside, another sign of growth in the area.

“It's very diverse and very robust,” said Nikos Westmoreland, vice president of communications for the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast. “It's right on the outskirts of downtown, lots of people living, working.”

It sits across the street from the 220 Riverside project, among other developments in the neighborhood.

The new, $21 million Winston Family YMCA sits in a prime riverfront location behind the old facility.  Construction is expected to take 12 to 16 months.

The Y still has to raise about $2 million to cover the whole cost.
