64-year-old man dies after home goes up in flames
YULEE, Fla. -- A 64 year-old man died after the mobile home he was living in went up in flames early Sunday morning. According to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, it happened at 1:19 a.m. at a mobile home on the 85000 block of Tinya Road.
Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and saw flames reaching the top of nearby trees.
"The propane bottle exploded in the back and it jarred this whole neighborhood," said Donald Hutcherson, neighbor.
According to Hutcherson, Ronald Carden, a dedicated member of Nassau County Moose Lodge #2352, lived in the home.
After hearing about what happened, lodge members gathered to celebrate the life of one of their own.
"Ron was a fine individual and this past year he served as our governor," said Lou Sluder, friend.
Sluder had known Carden for 10 years. He says the lodge meant everything to him.
"He'll be missed very much no doubt about it," said Sluder.
According to Hutcherson, two of Carden's dogs also died in the fire. A third dog managed to escape.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
