JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mike and Tera Barz will be hosting the 6th annual Anglers for a Cure Fishing Tournament this weekend.
The event is at Sisters Creek Marina Saturday at 5:45 a.m. Prizes are $3,000 first place, $2,000 second and $1,000 for third.
Entry fee is $85 or $100 for a junior angler and parent.
According to their website, Anglers for a Cure, Inc. was co-founded by teen anglers and longtime friends Jordan Carroll and Matt Hahnemann in 2006, after Jordan’s father, Doug Carroll, was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer in late 2004.
The young men sought to combine their love of fishing with a fierce dedication to helping find a cure for a disease which claims the lives of over 50,000 Americans each year. Detected early enough, this cancer can be beat in 90% of cases.
Jordan’s beloved dad passed away just 2 weeks after the 1st Annual Anglers for a Cure Tournament, knowing his family and friends would continue on in his memory through the work of AFC.
