BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- The convicted child molester accused of luring a local boy to his death is not competent to stand trial, according to a judge in Brunswick.
George Edenfield is charged with the 2007 rape and murder of Christopher Barrios. Police say the now 38-year-old brought Barrios to his home where he and his father, David, sexually assaulted the boy. Edenfield's mother, Peggy, is alleged to have watched the abuse while masturbating. The crime took place over a week.
The official incompetency order was signed and filed April 30. Two doctors previously testified that the younger Edenfield is mildly retarded. He was also a victim of sexual abuse according to the testimony.
Barrios was found in the woods not far from the Edenfield home wrapped in a trash bag. He had been strangled to death.
David Edenfield was convicted and sentenced to death. Peggy Edenfield received 60 years after her conviction.
