JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Several online petitions are circulating, including one with 6,000 signatures. They are surrounding the controversial piece of legislation councilman Don Redman is proposing to stop having concerts at Metropolitan Park.
He is defending the residents across the river from the park who say the music is a nuisance. However, Redman did say his goal is not to end concerts completely. His goal is to get the lines of communication open so some changes can be made.
"No, we don't want to ban them all together," Redman said. "The legislation I put out calls for banning main events, but that gives us leverage to work. We are negotiating with the city and with promoters and with the community. Hopefully we can still have music ,but not to the extreme it is now. We don't want to stop. It brings a lot to Jacksonville. And people enjoy it. It would be a shame to stop it completely and that's not my goal."
Protesters can have their voices heard tonight at the city council meeting at 5 p.m.
