Red light cameras could be banned in Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Just 15 days after the first three red light cameras activated in Jacksonville, discussions are already beginning about getting rid of them.
The Florida House Economic Affairs Committee will discuss a bill today that aims to outlaw red light cameras across the state.
Three more cameras were activated Tuesday and there's still 11 more to go. But could it all have been a waste of time?
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is reporting 220 tickets have been issued from the first three cameras, but those cameras are still on a 30-day grace period, so the driver's won't have to pay this time.
It's estimated the red light cameras will bring in $1.5 million dollars in the next fiscal year, but not if the bill to outlaw them passes.
