JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A new app is making it easier to find parking spaces in Downtown Jacksonville. The City of Jacksonville is working with a company called Streetline, which has developed technology that can find open parking spots in certain sections of Downtown. The app then sends the information to your smartphone or computer. The app shows open, on-street parking spaces in real time, as well as the locations of parking garages and lots.

Sensors near Downtown parking meters detect which spaces are available. “I am excited to see this innovative technology reach our streets,” Mayor Brown said. “Our citizens have told us that parking is a big factor in their Downtown experiences, and this action represents another example of the determination that I and many other stakeholders have to move our Downtown forward and truly make it a destination for all our residents and visitors.”

The app, called Parker™ by Streetline, will be available by early March.

“I am excited to see this innovative technology reach our streets,” Mayor Brown said. And I'm excited to know how much it cost the City to install this innovative technology? If it also monitors time-on-the-meter, that means less revenue from overtime parking. Mayor, is this the next level you're taking us to?
