JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There were 18 yays and zero nays at city council last night to approve the red light cameras.

People's opinions are split - some say it's a good thing. One man said, "People are rushing - driving crazy." While others said they believe you're more likely to be rear ended when trying to make a sudden stop.

But JSO says they'll cut down on crashes. If you're not familiar with red light cameras, here's how it works. If you run a red light, a camera will take a picture of your license plate. And after a police officer reviews the images, you'll get a $158 ticket in the mail.

"For 30 days prior to implementation, they're gonna set up notices," Matt Schellenberg, City Councilman, said. "So anybody that uses that intersection a lot is gonna know what's going on."

The cameras are expected to add at least $1.5 million dollars to the City's budget the first year they're up.

Haha! They are putting two red light cameras at the "intersection" of "9A" and J Turner Butler Blvd. Look at the map! It is right in the middle of I-295 under the overpass. Brilliant!

WE need these redlight cameras to make jacksonville florida a world class city.....cause we need to control non compliant human behavior with the use of fines , fees , rules, restrictions and regulations......cause in life its all about obeying the rules and being compliant...and if yall dont like the red light cameras...how bout this DO NOT RUN THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE AND U WILL NOT BE FINED...simple as that ....the only way to make people comply is with cameras and hard hitting fines
