SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -- A number of big names arrested in a veterans charity scandal are in court, trying to get out of jail.
A judge today granted a $500,000 bond to FOP President Nelson Cuba, with some restrictions. Cuba cannot leave Florida and must surrender his passports.
Jacksonville attorney Kelly Mathis received a bond of $1 million. Investigators believe he is the ringleader behind the illegal internet gambling operation. His attorney, Mitch Stone, says it's tantamount to no bond. Mathis, the attorney for Allied Veterans of the World, must also give up his passports and stay in Florida.
Former State Attorney Harry Shorstein is inside the courtroom as well. He is representing Michael Ryles of Sumter, South Carolina.
