Many people fear going to the dentist. However, most of the is anxiety caused by the patient's tooth pain before going to the dentist. New techniques and tools have been designed to make going to the dentist relatively pain-free. Ultrasonics have nearly eliminated the pain of traditional cleaning styles. Air abrasion tools have reduced the drilling noise and need for anesthesia in many procedures. Better local anesthetics and other types of anesthesia may also be used to reduce your anxiety during treatment. If you're hyper sensitive to dentists, you may want to practice stress reduction techniques including relaxation tapes, breathing exercises, hypnosis, or biofeedback training to reduce your fear. Many of these techniques require instruction from specialists to gain the desired relaxing results. Many dentists have practiced dealing with patient fears and can help make the dental treatment easier for you. Talk with your dentist regarding your fears and how to develop a method of managing your anxiety.
