If you are planning a move, you will find that expenses can add up. A key to saving money is to 'comparison shop' between various moving companies. You can do this by comparing their total services offered and their prices. Another possibility is to pack the items yourself. You may also want to consider selling any unnecessary items before you move. You can do this by placing a classified ad or having a garage sale. These are both great ways to get some extra pocket money and to get rid of some of your unnecessary things, thereby having fewer items to move. And the more you can reduce the moving weight, the more you can reduce the moving cost. Ideal items to include in a sale are furniture that may not be suited for your new home, older items in need of replacement, or items that might cost more to move than to replace. A final money saving device to consider is donating items to charitable organizations. Some of these organizations will even send a truck to your home to pick up the items. An added benefit is that such a donation may also be tax deductible. A local moving company may also be able to discuss further money saving strategies with you and provide you with free literature that can help you best plan your move.
