The ideal time to install a home automation system is while the house is being built. In fact, it's best to have the system planned out as much as possible, before construction even begins. This gives you the opportunity to build in features like home theater cabinets, lighted and recessed wall niches, or spaces where video monitors can be mounted flush with the wall. And needless to say, wiring is much simpler, when done before the walls are closed up. You'll save a great deal of time and money, by having wires run during the construction process. It's a good idea to sit down with your builder and electrician, to discuss exactly what electronic features you want. If necessary, have them coordinate with the dealer who's selling you the home automation system. Even if you don't buy a system right away, you may want to consider installing the necessary wiring. That way, you can easily add home automation in the future, when your budget allows.
