Here are some signs that problems may be developing with your septic tank system. First, if the area above the absorption field is growing greener grass than surrounding areas, then you may have some flooding In the absorption area, indicating inadequate drainage. You may have a clogged drainage system. Other signs that can indicate a problem are excessive water use and unusually strong sewage odors. To avoid the costly repairs associated with a failed septic system, make sure the system is the proper size for your home, don't clog the system with paper products or dispose of chemicals in the tank, and have the tank pumped out at least every three years. In most areas, it is required that you have your septic system inspected yearly by a plumbing professional.
