Water makes traction difficult, and your decking and surrounding pool surfaces are all subject to it. The surfaces can be sprayed during construction with products to reduce the slick surface and improve traction. However, as a pool owner, you should remind guests and family members to be aware of the surface and resist the impulse to run near the pool. The design of your pool should eliminate areas of water pooling on the outside surface and allow for proper drainage. If an area around your pool is not draining, you should consider repairing it. You may also want to investigate products to attach to high traveled areas which seem constantly wet, for example ladder and stair areas. Algae growth on surfaces can also create a slick surface. Proper chemical maintenance, scrubbing and cleaning of your pool will prevent algae growth. Encouraging caution at your pool, will ensure that everyone will enjoy themselves safely.
