Jimmy Kimmel taunts President Trump over SCOTUS pick and 'Bachelorette' interruption

Late-night hosts were in a bit of a bind Monday: They taped their shows hours before President Trump announced federal appeals court judge Brett Kavanagh as his nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. But they couldn't wait until Tuesday night to talk about it.

"Tonight was a bigly night for our celebrity president," Jimmy Kimmel announced at the top of his show, referencing "the Supreme Court nominee special, hosted by you-know-who. It was even on all the major networks, even interrupting 'The Bachelorette' here at ABC, which is a no-no. They had the first hour of 'The Bachelorette,' then the Supreme Court announcement, and then the 'After the Final Robe' special, hosted by Chris Harrison."

Kimmel also reviewed President Trump's series of tweets promoting the special, most notably one from Monday morning in which he proclaimed, "I have long heard that the most important decision a U.S. President can make is the selection of a Supreme Court Justice."

To which Kimmel added, " 'I have long heard, for Donald Trump, means 'they said it this morning on 'Fox & Friends.'"

He then questioned why Trump feels the need to be so dramatic about announcing his pick: "No one needs more suspense. Just give us the name of your nominee so we can move on with our terrifying lives, OK?"

Kimmel's bit culminated with the real footage of the announcement and some voice-over magic: "I'm proud to keep another promise to the American people by nominating Lord Voldemort to the U.S. Supreme Court."
