JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The northbound lanes of I-295 at Pritchard Road are back open after a fatal crash between a charter bus full of baseball players from the Elizabethton Twins and another car.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on I-295, just north of Pritchard Road at 4:25 a.m.

A charter bus carrying 33 minor league baseball players affiliated with the Minnesota Twins minor league in Elizabethton, Tenn., was traveling north when the driver saw a Honda Civic driving the wrong way.

Both the bus and Civic took corrective action but could not avoid hitting each other.

The driver of the car, 28-year-old Corshane Brown died at the scene. No one on the bus was hurt.

The northbound lanes of I-295 were shut down for hours before reopening just before 9 a.m.

The Elizabethton Twins have been a minor league farm team of the Minnesota Twins since 1974.  According to WINK-TV, the CBS affiliate in Fort Myers, the team was training in south Florida and was on its way home for the season opener on Thursday night.  The team has won five Appy League crowns in the last ten years.

Action News spoke with General Manager Mike Mainas who said the team is fine.
