ATLANTA (
WSB-TV) -- A 14-year-old student was shot in the head at Price Middle School in Atlanta Thursday afternoon, Emergency Management Services said.
One teacher was also injured, but not shot, sources said.
Atlanta police said the shooting happened around 1:50 p.m. Thursday. Police said upon arrival officers discovered a student had been shot outside of the school building.
Police said the student was alert, conscious and breathing when he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Channel 2's Rachel Stockman is at the hospital gathering the latest information.
Channel 2's Tom Jones is at Price Middle School. He said students have been taken into an auditorium and are not being released at this time.
APD said all students are safe and Atlanta Public Schools officials will be on hand to assist with the dismissal.
APD said a suspect, who has been tentatively identified as a student, has been taken into custody.
Police sources initially told WSB-TV the shooting took place at nearby Carver High School.
Price Middle School is located at 1670 Benjamin Weldon Bickers Drive SE.
