JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Coast Guard will bring 2,000 pounds of cocaine to the Mayport naval station Friday.
According to the coast guard, the cocaine was seized on August 16th and is worth around $27.7 million.
The Coast Guard reports the drugs were seized from a fishing boat 260 nautical miles north of the Galapagos Islands. They said they found 2K lbs. of narcotics while conducting counter transnational organized crime operations, called Operation Martillo. The coast guard says they worked closely with the navy to intercept the fishing boat carry the drugs.
The suspects on the boat were turned over to Costa Rican authorities.
The cocaine will be unloaded at the Mayport naval station around noon.
