JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- For the first time, we're hearing the 911 calls made as a ship collided with the Mathews Bridge last Thursday.
One caller said, "There's a ship that just went underneath the Mathews Bridge and hit the bridge, has damaged the bridge."
Another caller said, "It bashed the underside of the bridge. All kind of debris came off of it."
The 911 calls came from dockworkers, tug boat operators and witnesses worried about the drivers still crossing the span.
"I can see some stuff hanging off the bridge. It's still got traffic moving both ways," said another 911 caller.
The collision damaged a major support beam. The bridge is closed indefinitely.
It's estimated the repair will cost $3 million. The Florida Department of Transportation is expected to released more information tomorrow at 2 p.m.
