"Gordon" Rolling Hitting Azores; Strong Wave E. Atlantic; "Disturbed" Weather W. Gulf....."Gordon" is a compact but rather vigorous hurricane moving into the Azores in the far E. Atlantic. Fast eastward movement will slow the next few days as the tropical cyclone becomes extratropical. No impact on the U.S. OR Bermuda.
The strong tropical wave in the Eastern Atlantic seems destined to be our next tropical cyclone. Most importantly...forecast models have have continued to trend significantly farther south & west (see last image below) with this system by the middle & end of the upcoming work week. The reasoning is that a narrow ridge of high pressure will build behind "Gordon" across the Central Atlantic. Another factor in the long run, will be a trough of low pressure near the east coast of the U.S. This trough will be weakening by late week/next weekend but could still be a significant player in the eventual track of the system if it manages to get that far west. There are at least a few forecast models responding to this trough by turning the storm more northward late in the week.
Convection continues over the far Western Gulf near & off the coast of Mexico/Southeast Texas. It appears to be separate from what was "Helene" which moved inland over NE Mexico Saturday. Given a trough of low pressure digging as far south as the Northern Gulf, & the presence of a weak surface trough, slow development of low pressure & eventually a tropical disturbance in the W. Gulf will have to be monitored.
Another tropical wave is moving off the coast of Africa & will move west with at least some potential for development.
