JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Some beachgoers say summer got off to a rough start in Jacksonville Beach, with that violent brawl involving dozens of people, right in the middle of Memorial Day celebrations.

Some believe the brawl ruined the town's reputation.

Zeta restaurant opened for business two months before that big fight.

The general manager tells Action News, while it was bad for business, Jacksonville Beach is bouncing back.

"We're getting programs going so we can draw people back to the beaches to let them know it's family friendly so they can have a good time," said Sunny Montes.

With a big weekend, already in full swing, police are everywhere.

Frequent patrols and increased security are just part of a renewed effort by Jacksonville Beach to keep all visitors safe. With the unofficial end of summer, lifeguards are ready for one last big beach weekend.

"We're prepared for heavier crowds, hot temperatures and a nice calm ocean," said lifeguard Lt. Rob Emahiser.

Long-time locals we spoke to say they're not worried about the holiday crowds or about seeing more brawls.

"Everything has been going really well. It's been really quiet. It's been the beaches, it's been really nice," said Tamara Hermann.
